Terms of service
Updated October 1, 2026
By installing the Comment Scraper extension, using comment-scraper.com or buying a plan, you agree to these terms. The short version: follow the rules of the sites you export from, use exports for your own research, and don't use them to contact, profile or sell data about the people who wrote them.
Who we are
These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY], [ADDRESS] ("we", "us"). They cover the Comment Scraper browser extension for Chrome and Edge, the website comment-scraper.com, accounts, and paid plans. Our privacy policy explains what data we handle.
What Comment Scraper does
The extension exports threads you have open on Reddit and Hacker News, in your own browser, when you click Export. It saves exports in your browser and can produce AI briefs from them.
It does not monitor keywords, crawl whole subreddits, look up users, export private communities, post, reply or send messages, and we never fetch threads from our servers on your behalf.
Following the rules of the sites you export from
You must follow the terms of every site you export from, including Reddit's User Agreement and other Reddit policies, the rules of Hacker News, and the law where you live.
We have no agreement with Reddit. Reddit's User Agreement says scraping its services without Reddit's prior written consent is prohibited. You decide whether and how to use the extension, and you accept the risk that Reddit may rate-limit, warn or suspend your account.
The extension works only inside your own logged-in session, at a fixed pace, and only when you click. It does not try to defeat logins, CAPTCHAs, rate limits or any other technical measure, and you agree not to combine it with tools that do.
Acceptable use
You may use Comment Scraper and its exports for personal or internal research only. You may not:
- send spam or unsolicited messages, or harass anyone
- build lead lists, or contact people because they appear in an export
- try to identify the people behind accounts or comments, or match them with other data
- infer sensitive traits such as health, political views, religion or sexual orientation
- use exports to train or fine-tune AI models, or to build datasets for that
- sell, license or redistribute exported data
- publish other people's comments word for word, for example in ads, without their permission
- tamper with the extension's limits, or use it to put unusual load on any site
If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account.
Sources can change or be switched off
Reddit and Hacker News can change their pages, access or rules at any time, and exports may fail until we adapt. Current problems are listed on our status page.
We may switch off a source, or the whole extension, at any time. That includes when Reddit asks us to, for legal reasons, or for technical ones. The extension stops using a source within 24 hours of us switching it off. Exports already saved in your browser stay there, and you can still export anything that was fetched before the switch.
Accounts
You don't need an account to export. AI briefs and paid plans need one. You sign in with your email address and a one-time code, so keep access to that inbox secure. The free brief allowance is one per email address. An account can have only one subscription at a time.
Plans and prices
| Plan | Price | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Single-thread exports and 3 AI briefs a month |
| Personal | $12 a month, or $108 a year | Everything in Free, plus batch export of open tabs and 60 AI-brief credits a month |
| 7-day pass | $19, one time | Paid features for 7 days and 100 credits. Doesn't renew. |
A Pro plan is coming later. Plan limits, such as comments per thread and threads per day, are on the pricing page and may change.
Prices don't include tax. Where tax applies, it's added at checkout. We take card payments, including card wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, through Stripe. A subscription starts when its first invoice is paid; a pass starts when its payment succeeds. You can buy more than one pass. Each lasts 7 days from its own payment and has its own 100 credits.
Credits
One credit pays for one chunk of an AI brief: up to 1,000 comments or 60,000 input tokens, whichever comes first. Merging chunks into one brief is free, and deleted comments with no text aren't counted. Free briefs don't use credits.
Subscription credits are granted monthly on the same day of the month as your start date (or the last day of shorter months) and expire when the next batch is granted. Annual plans get the same monthly batches. Pass credits expire 7 days after purchase. Credits never roll over, and the batch that expires first is used first. All times are in UTC.
You're charged only when a finished brief reaches you. If the final step fails, the reserved credits are returned.
Renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time in the billing portal, which you open from the extension. After cancelling, you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for.
If a renewal payment fails, you keep your plan's features while Stripe retries the payment, but no new credits are granted. If a retry succeeds, that period's credits are granted and the period end date doesn't move. If Stripe stops retrying, your account moves to Free.
Refunds
- Your first subscription payment, monthly or annual, is refundable in full within 14 days, no questions asked.
- A 7-day pass is refundable within 7 days of purchase if you've used fewer than 10 of its credits.
- Annual plans aren't refundable after 14 days, but you can turn off renewal and keep the plan until the year ends.
- Other payments aren't refundable, except where the law requires it or under the next section.
To ask for a refund, email hello@comment-scraper.com from your account's address. We cancel the subscription first, then refund. A full refund ends the features and credits for the period it covers. A refunded pass ends along with its remaining credits.
If you file a chargeback, we cancel the subscription immediately, and the features and credits for that period end. If the chargeback is resolved in our favour, we restore your remaining features and unused credits until the end of that period, but the subscription doesn't restart on its own.
If we stop the Reddit feature
If we have to stop exporting from Reddit, for example after a legal demand from Reddit, we will:
- Within 24 hours, switch off Reddit exports, stop new purchases and pause all automatic renewals. Briefs already running will finish using data that was already fetched. Your local data stays where it is, and we'll remind you that you can export a backup.
- Within one week, refund the value you haven't used. For monthly plans, that's the remaining days of the current period. For annual plans, it's the remaining months plus the remaining days of the current month. For passes, it's the remaining days. If you'd rather have credit for other sources instead, we'll do that only if you choose it.
If the extension is removed from the Chrome Web Store and isn't back within 30 days, we'll offer the same refunds.
AI briefs
Briefs are written by third-party AI models and can be wrong or miss things. Counts and percentages in a brief are estimates. Quotes are pulled from your export by comment ID, so they match what was fetched, but check anything you plan to rely on. Decisions you make based on a brief are yours.
Your exports and our software
We don't claim any rights in what you export. The comments belong to the people who wrote them, under the terms of the site they were posted on. We own the extension, the website and the brief format. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use them under these terms.
Disclaimers
We provide Comment Scraper as is and as available. We don't promise that an export contains every comment in a thread. Each export shows how many comments were fetched, how many we know weren't, and the count the site displays, so you can judge for yourself. Sites can change their pages at any time, which can break exports for hours or days.
Comment Scraper isn't affiliated with Reddit, Inc., Y Combinator or Hacker News (see our disclaimer). Nothing on our site or in the extension is legal advice.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, or for anything that happens to your accounts on other sites, including warnings or suspensions on Reddit. Our total liability for any claim relating to Comment Scraper is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.
Ending these terms
You can stop at any time: uninstall the extension, delete your local data and delete your account (see the privacy policy). We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms.
Changes to these terms
We'll post changes here and update the date at the top. If a change affects what you get from a paid plan, we'll email you before it takes effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by [GOVERNING LAW].
